Anderson, Cummings & Drawhorn Announces 2019 Texas Scholarship Winner

mabel sodeindeThe law offices of Anderson, Cummings & Drawhorn is proud to announce that Mabel Sodeinde has been chosen as the recipient of our 2019 Texas Scholarship of Academic Excellence.

The scholarship was created to assist full-time students who are enrolled in a degree program at a university or college in Texas. To be selected, applicants must submit an essay and have demonstrated outstanding leadership and ethical standards on campus or in the local community. Recipients receive one $1,500 scholarship.

Sodeinde is enrolled at Texas Tech University, where she maintains a 3.5 GPA and has a projected graduation date of 2022. During her time as a college student, Sodeinde has worked hard to establish her future career. Since May 2018, she has represented Texas Tech University’s Pre-Law community as a pre-law ambassador by recruiting and organizing events to connect students with professional attorneys and law school students.

Additionally, Sodeinde has acted as Pac Leader for Texas Tech University’s Mentor Tech Protégé Advisory Committee, where she mentored incoming freshman/transfer protégés and aided student-led events, including study groups, networking, professional workshops and volunteer events.

Between August 2017 and May 2018, Sodeinde was chair on the Complex Council Health Affairs, where she presented ideas for the well-being of students in campus residence halls. She also volunteered and coordinated events with the council to address critical issues on campus, including alcohol abuse and sexual assault.

In August 2017, Sodeinde also became a member of Texas Tech University’s Black Student Association, where she has participated in meetings, debates and events to educate and address issues in the black community on campus. She also led a “Die in” to create awareness about police brutality and show the similarities between Black Lives Matter and the March for Our Lives movements.

Additionally, Sodeinde was a coordinator for Texas Youth and Government between 2015 and 2017. There, she introduced high school students to the fundamentals of politics and lawmaking, and recruited minority students to debate issues facing their communities.

We chose Sodeinde for the 2019 Texas Scholarship of Academic Excellence because we believe she exemplifies the values and determination needed to be a leader in the community. We are honored to provide her with this scholarship, and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
