Texas Scholarship of Academic Excellence Awarded to Angel Phan

scholarship winnerAnderson & Cummings is pleased to have awarded Angel Phan with our Texas Scholarship of Academic Excellence.

Phan is a biology student at St. Edward’s University where she maintains a 3.9 grade point average and is an active student in her college and the Austin VA Outpatient Clinic. After her projected graduation in 2020, she plans to attend Dell Medical School.

In her essay submitted with her application for the scholarship, Phan highlighted the clinic as one of the defining moments in her decision to pursue a medical career. Through volunteering at the clinic, she found a way to combine her love for science and volunteering. That experience helped her realize that she could best cater to the psychological and physiological needs of patients as a doctor.

She also shared that her aunt’s battle with lung cancer and her grandmother’s medical struggles also had a strong impact on her chosen career path, noting that she was inspired by the care and compassion of the medical staff that helped her family.

Each year, the personal injury lawyers of Anderson, Cummings & Drawhorn choose one student to receive the Texas Scholarship of Academic Excellence based on the student’s academic achievements, a submitted essay and a letter of recommendation. Although difficult to choose just one recipient, we feel that Phan has demonstrated outstanding leadership and academic achievement, and we wish her success in her future endeavors.

We are honored to continue to provide this scholarship in an effort to support the dreams and goals of students throughout Texas.
